WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF BLUZE

Chris Mayfield

Guitars, Fretless Bass, Vocals

Chris was born in Yorkshire, raised in Kent. In 1956 he was given a choice of a pair of skates or a guitar. He is still playing the guitar.

From 1958 he was appearing with local bands, early influences being Sonny Terry / Brownie McGee, Jimmy Witherspoon, Leadbelly and other blues and folk artists.

In 1965 he moved to London to begin a career that is still going today in 2005. In the early days he worked the blues clubs with a fine harmonica player “Moxie” and was hired as a sideman for various chart artists touring England and Europe.

1968 was the year his songwriting took off and he was signed, with his band “Mayfields Mule” to E.M.I. records, and was able to record at Abbey Road studios through 1971, releasing several singles and an album on the Parlophone label.

In 1972 he moved to Amsterdam and spent some time playing acoustic blues in European venues. Retuned to England in 1975 and joined up with ex-Experience bass player Noel Reading for an interesting musical venture.

1979 brought a move to Los Angeles, California, and to an eight piece band playing clubs in the L.A. area. Whilst in California he played music with many people, some for a long time, some for a short time, but always for a good time. A few of these being Ritchie Hayward, Kenny Gradney, Coco Montoya, Greg Wright, Jimmy Z, J.J. Cale and many others.

In 1986 moved down to San Diego and returned to acoustic blues with accomplished guitar and harmonica player Jeff Moran.

1989 brought another move, to the bluegrass state of Kentucky, to a log cabin in the woods. From there he maintained his musical endeavours playing blues and bluegrass from Nashville to Louisville and places in between.

In 1998 returned to England and formed Bluze………..the Band.
